AT A GLANCE
Partner since: 2022
Refugee origin: Syria, Afghanistan
Refugee location: Turkey, Afghanistan
Østerland was founded to pay homage to aesthetics, refugees, history and heritage in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Østerland was founded in 2021 in Copenhagen, Denmark and works with artisans in Turkey and Afghanistan. Østerland use materials such as locally harvested wool, cotton, silk, plant-based weaves, gold, silver, gemstones, and brass from the regions they are working in. By working with natural materials and creating employment opportunities for local communities, they aim to contribute to poverty reduction by supporting the creation of sustainable and decently paid jobs for artisans in the Middle East and Afghanistan.
Refugee Artisan Group
Syrian refugees living in Turkey and internally displaced persons in Afghanistan are working with Østerland on MADE51 products. The artisans are based in Kilis, Hatay, Gaziantep and Istanbul in Türkiye and in Herat and Kabul in Afghanistan.
