About RefuSHE
RefuSHE is a not-for-profit based in Nairobi, Kenya. RefuSHE protects, educates, and empowers orphaned, unaccompanied, and separated refugee girls and young women to build healthier and more resilient futures for themselves and their children.
RefuSHE’s work includes running a safe house, offering legal aid, providing mental health support and creating livelihoods opportunities. As part of this, RefuSHE established a social enterprise ‘Artisan Collective’ that empowers refugee women to become skilled, confident, and economically independent entrepreneurs. The collaborative arts-based curriculum allows members to express themselves creatively through the design and production of hand-dyed scarves and textiles, acquire transferrable leadership and business management skills, and earn an income to support themselves and their families.
Refugee Artisan Group
Congolese, Ethiopian, and South Sudanese refugees work with RefuSHE in Nairobi. Currently the group consists of 19 women, most of whom learned artisan skills through RefuSHE and now work together in the production of hand-dyed accessories.

"Before joining RefuSHE, I tried many times to apply for jobs, but it was very hard because many places do not want to hire refugees. This group has helped me a lot. Now I am employed, and my life has changed."
