About WomenCraft

Womencraft is a social enterprise based in Ngara Tanzania with the goal of increasing economic opportunity in the post-conflict, tri-border area of Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania by bringing rural women together, facilitating their growth and connecting their artistry to the global marketplace. Womencraft works with over 600 female artisans, both from the host community and displaced women from Burundi.

Refugee Artisan Group

WomenCraft collaborates with Burundians who have returned to Burundi after living as refugees in Tanzania. Currently, the artisan group consists of 63 returnees. As life in the camps became more difficult, most artisans returned to Burundi, settling near the border so they could continue working with Womencraft.

“I’ve learned so many new things about being an artisan and working together in a cooperative. Now, I wish to train my children how to weave and save money so they can be creative and empowered too.”
