After nearly 14 years of conflict, a transition of power is currently taking place in Syria after the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December of 2024.

Over 1 million Syrians have been displaced since the escalation of fighting from 28 November 2024, many for the second or third time.
Prior to this, more than 13 million Syrians had been forced to flee their homes since 2011. For years, families have been torn apart – and many have lost their loved ones and livelihoods.
More than 90% of Syrians inside the country depend on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs.
Rebuilding lives and communities in such conditions remains an immense challenge.

UNHCR remains on the ground in Syria and is committed to stay and deliver.
With partners, we are working to provide life-saving supplies, shelter and services to those most in need.
MADE51 works with Syrian refugee artisans in Armenia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkiye. Many of these artisans are uncertain about what the future holds, particularly those in Lebanon, many of whom have been displaced by the outbreak of conflict.
