Akooshi

About Akooshi

Akooshi recycles coconut shells into useful products, such as containers, bowls, cups, keyrings, earrings and other customised coconut shell products. Akooshi has a strong sustainability mission and for this reason, the products are made from biodegradable material and attention is paid to the quality of the products, so that they are durable while also being stylish and simple to use.

Refugee Artisan Group

Akooshi collaborates with 12 men and women refugees from Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Liberia, Sudan, and Togo that are living in Krisan camp in the Western region of Ghana. The group was trained to create a line of attractive coconut bowls with a zero-waste approach to utilise every part of the coconut to create a line of by-products, including pure coconut oil, coconut milk and coconut sweets.

Features

"Humanitarian assistance saves lives and must continue wherever needs arise. But when emergency tools become the long-term default, and entire generations remain trapped in dependency, we are not building sustainability. We must measure success by whether people can rebuild their lives."

Barham Salih, UN High Commissioner for Refugees
